Barbecue Safety

Summer is a great time for outdoor picnics and barbecues. This summer, add a little safety to your next cookout. It makes the food taste a lot better!

  • Put the grill someplace where it won't rock back and forth or tip over. The grill should stand on concrete or in sand so that if it falls over, it won't catch anything else on fire.
  • Keep a bucket of water or a fire extinguisher nearby the grill.
  • Don't leave smoldering coals in the grill.
  • Keep flammable things (gasoline, house paint, and certain kinds of clothing) away from fire.
  • Never run or play near a barbecue grill.
  • Keep matches, charcoal and lighter fluid out of reach of children at all times.
